Life on Campus: Powder Term

As you wake up in Durango, Colorado, at a cozy ski lodge nestled amid the majestic peaks, you are greeted by a scene straight out of a winter wonderland. The room is warm and inviting, with a crackling fireplace casting a gentle glow across the wooden furnishings. The crisp mountain air seeps in through the partially open window, promising an exhilarating day on the slopes.

You can hear the muffled sounds of skis sliding across fresh powder and the distant laughter of fellow skiers getting ready for their adventures. The anticipation builds within you as you imagine yourself gliding effortlessly down the slopes, surrounded by the breathtaking vistas that only the mountains can offer.

You catch glimpses of the snow-capped peaks outside your window as you dress in your warmest gear. The sunlight reflects off the pristine white snow, creating a sparkling landscape that entices you to explore. You can almost feel the chill of the snow against your cheeks and the adrenaline pumping through your veins.

Stepping outside, you are greeted by a winter paradise. The air is cold and refreshing, but the excitement overrides any discomfort. The lodge is surrounded by towering evergreen trees dressed with fresh snow, creating a picture-perfect setting that seems straight out of a postcard.

Skiing at Purgatory Resort in Colorado

Making your way to Purgatory Ski Resort, the anticipation continues to build. The scenic drive takes you through twisting mountain roads, offering glimpses of icy cliffs and frozen streams. The closer you get, the more you can sense the bustling energy of the resort - a hub of ski enthusiasts ready to take on the mountain.

Arriving at the base area, you are immediately drawn to seeing skiers and snowboarders whizzing down the slopes, leaving trails of powdered snow in their wake. The sound of laughter and excited chatter fills the air, creating an atmosphere of shared exhilaration and camaraderie.

As you board the chairlift and ascend to the summit, your heart races with excitement and awe. The panoramic views unfold before you, showcasing the rugged beauty of the San Juan Mountains. The vast expanse of white, punctuated by snow-capped peaks, stretches as far as the eye can see.

You take a moment to soak in the scenery before setting off. The snow beneath your skis feels soft and inviting, and the rhythmic sway of your turns becomes a soothing soundtrack. The rush of adrenaline combines with the serene tranquility of the mountains, creating an enchanting harmony.

Throughout the day, you explore the diverse terrain of Purgatory Ski Resort - from groomed trails perfect for carving elegant arcs to challenging mogul runs that test your skills. With each run, you push yourself further, embracing the thrill of conquering new challenges and immersing yourself in the pure joy of skiing.

The Beauty of Life on Campus in the Mountains

Life on campus is a blend of structure, fun, and focus. Between full mornings of skiing on the slopes, study hall, group meals, and community living, it’s safe to say our students are never bored! Upon arrival to Powder Term, our teenagers hand over their computers and cellphones and enter the joys of extended device-free lvining and connection. Instead of staring at one’s phone and social media platforms for hours, our students hang out in the common area reading books, playing cards, practicing on the balance board, and making memories together.

All of these experiences are held and supported by our amazing staff. Our team is made up of passionate, professional, and inspiring adults who use their backgrounds and expertise to create this once in a lifetime experience for the teens.
