packing Policies
A few things that apply to every program
Personal responsibility: Your child’s bag should be manageable enough for them to carry themselves. This matters on travel days and sets the right tone from the moment they leave home.
Rental gear: Gear, from ski poles to surf boards, is taken care of so don’t let equipment be a barrier. For each program, Discover Term arranges rentals and coordinates gear so students arrive ready to go — no specialized equipment required. Details are in your program’s packing list.
No extras: Anything not on the list stays home. We ask that families avoid packing extra items — our community lives by the ethos that less is more, and that starts before students arrive. For the same reason, we ask that no care packages be sent during the program. Questions about this policy can be directed to admissions@discoverterm.com.
Optional items: The packing lists include a small number of optional additions. Everything else is required. If something is listed, it’s there for a reason.
Medical items: Medical needs are handled separately. Each list includes a reminder to update your child’s medical form through the Parent Dashboard. Please don’t skip this step — it directly supports our ability to care for your child on program.

Each Discover Term program has its own packing list tailored to its specific environment, activities, and duration. A Colorado winter and a Costa Rica summer require very different gear — and we’ve thought through every detail so you don’t have to guess.
